Nephew held in slaying of beach resident

A Navarre Beach man is dead and his 15-year old nephew is in custody after being arrested in connection with the slaying.

Responding to a 911 call late Tuesday night that a person had been stabbed in the north end of the county, Escambia Sheriff’s deputies arrived at 9770 Windy Hill Road to find Daniel Matthew Carter of Beulah, standing outside the residence.

The 15-year old had blood on his clothing and hands, and proceeded to make a spontaneous statement that indicated that he had stabbed his uncle.

Deputies then entered the residence and discovered the victim, identified as 45-year old Jack Lloyd Carter of the 8500 block of Gulf Boulevard, who had been stabbed multiple times.

He was pronounced dead on the scene at 12:07am, Wednesday morning by emergency medical technicians.

Daniel Carter was arrested and at press time Wednesday was being held at the Department of Youth Services.
