Although this is a horrible tragedy, the real
tragedy is the incarceration of Daniel Carter, the young man whom Stokes was defending.
At 15 yrs of age he was awoken from sleep by
his uncle, enraged on steroids and alcohol, broke down his door and proceeded to beat him
with a mag flashlight. His uncle yielding a knife and rope threatened to castrate him. In
a struggle for possession of a knife the uncles throat was cut leading to his death.
This is an obvious case of self defense.
But the overzealous prosecutor is charging him as an adult for first degree murder.
This is an outrage! Any one of us would have
done the same thing in this situation. And I am appalled at the lack of media attention
this boy is receiving and by the apparent lack of compassion that the Escambia County
Prosecutors office is showing. Are we now living in a society where we are not allowed to
defend ourselves attack? Shame on us for allowing this to continue!
