President Harry S. Truman's contributions to protecting America's
security and his fondness for this island city were remembered
Saturday at a conference. Brent Scowcroft, national security adviser
under the first President Bush, and former Truman aides George
Elsey, Milton Kayle and Ken Hechler were presenters at the Truman
Legacy Symposium.

Administration officials said it could take months before they
determine the cause of a small plane crash that killed two men,
including a lawyer who defended one of two adolescent brothers who
murdered their father with an aluminum baseball bat. Lawyer James
Stokes and businessman John Johnson died Wednesday in a crash near
Elsanor, Ala. Neither man was a licensed pilot.

n animal rights organization is receiving help from actress
Bea Arthur in its criticism of animal research conducted by an area
chiropractic school. Dozens of employees at the three campuses of
the Palmer Chiropractic University System received taped telephone
messages Thursday from the star of former television shows "The
Golden Girls" and "Maude."
